HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Assemblymember Paul Fong Proclamation - Word - 10.21.2014PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Assemblymember Paul Fong is being recognized for his noteworthy accomplishments as a representative of the 28th District, including the areas of west San Jose, and the cities of Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Saratoga; and WHEREAS, Assemblymember Fong is highly valued for his passion and dedication to changing young lives and has authored legislation to address increasing student access and address the student fee process for the California State University and University of California Systems; and WHEREAS, Assemblymember Fong’s dedication to education is exemplified by numerous awards; such as, the California Federation of Teacher’s Legislator of the Year 2012, University of California Student Association Legislator of the Year 2011, California Community Colleges Board of Governors Legislator of the Year 2011, Faculty Association of California Community Colleges Legislator of the Year Award 2011 and the California State Student Association Legislator of the Year Award 2010; and WHEREAS, Assemblymember Fong is an advocate for various causes and is a founding member of the Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI), Chair of the Elections and Redistricting Committee and the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus and a member of the Board for Sacred Heart Community Services and Community Housing Developers as well as being a member of the Environmental Caucus, Democratic Caucus, Community College Caucus and Animal Protection Caucus; and WHEREAS, Assemblymember Fong has also represented local colleges by serving on the Foothill-De Anza Community College District Board of Trustees, the Foothill-De Anza Foundation Board of Directors and the Board of the California Community College Trustees. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize Assemblymember Paul Fong and thank him for his unwavering commitment and involvement in environmental issues, small business, civil rights, affordable housing, technology and innovation, human rights and diversity and by making significant local and statewide contributions to our society.
