HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Tzu Chi Foundation ProclamationPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the mission of the Tzu Chi Foundation, an international humanitarian organization, is to relieve the suffering of those in need and create a better world for all; and WHEREAS, Tzu Chi is now ten million members strong and is active on 5 continents and in over 90 countries; and WHEREAS, Tzu Chi provides not only physical relief, but also advocates the development of altruistic love for others, and selfless giving through volunteering; and WHEREAS, the origins of this chapter began with one woman, Mrs. Lin-Wang, affectionately known as the “Silicon Valley Grandma”; and WHEREAS, although Mrs. Lin-Wang did not speak any English or drive a car, she did not let these obstacles stop her and started the Northwest Region chapter in her garage in Almaden, leading by example and inspiring others to do good deeds; and WHEREAS, this newly renovated campus is a giant milestone that will expand its community service offerings to assist residents in Northern California stricken with poverty. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize the Tzu Chi Foundation Northwest Region and applaud the Foundation in encouraging people to become involved in activities that help those in need and acknowledge all the volunteers for their tireless dedication, hard work and commitment to the organization in benefiting our community. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Friday, January First, Two Thousand and Sixteen. _______________________ Barry Chang, Mayor
