WHEREAS, on Saturday, October Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Fifteen, the City
of Cupertino wishes to recognize the 13th Annual Diwali - Festival of Lights
celebration; and
WHEREAS, Diwali or Deepavali brings together communities across India and
around the world to celebrate the triumph of good over evil; and
WHEREAS, Diwali heralds the beginning of a new business year in many parts of
India and is therefore also a celebration of prosperity and wealth; and
WHEREAS, the Festival of Lights provides a fun -filled and enriching day for Bay
Area residents to joyfully experience with families and friends; and
WHEREAS, a congressional resolution recognizing the religious and historical
significance of Diwali was passed by both the Senate and House of Representatives.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do
hereby recognize

and encourage all Cupertino residents to support and participate in this event of
cultural, international and community understanding.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City
of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, October Seventeenth, Two Thousand and
Fifteen.
