WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino wishes to show its support for Arbor Day, an
event that began in 1872 when a special day was set aside by the Nebraska board
of Agriculture for the planting of trees; and
WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, trees can reduce erosion of precious topsoil by wind and water, lower
heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce
oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and
WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic
vitality of business areas, and beautify our community; and
WHEREAS, the Tree/Right of Way Division of the City’s Department of Public
Works, the Public Affairs Department and other interested residents have
organized an annual Arbor Day celebration; and
WHEREAS, Arbor Day will be celebrated with activities on Saturday, April
Eleventh, Two Thousand and Fifteen, at the Civic Center Plaza from 11:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Earth Day event.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino do
hereby recognize April Eleventh, Two Thousand and Fifteen as
ARBOR DAY
and urge all residents, businesses and organizations to engage in activities that
support efforts to protect our trees and to observe this day by planting trees or
participating in a tree planting ceremony.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the
City of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, April Eleventh, Two Thousand and
Fifteen.
