WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino wishes to acknowledge the outstanding
regional benefit of West Valley Community Services’ free Volunteer
Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program; and
WHEREAS, last year, dedicated VITA tax preparers helped 77 clients complete
and file their tax returns, bringing in nearly $95,000 in refunds; and
WHEREAS, VITA volunteers at WVCS invest 20 to 32 hours of specialized
training from the IRS to become certified, and every year they
devote more time keeping up with changing tax laws and serving
as preparers, greeters and interpreters in various languages; and
WHEREAS, generous with their time and expertise, the VITA volunteers go out
of their way to meet the needs of low-income clients, even offering
their services on Saturdays to accommodate working taxpayers;
and
WHEREAS, demonstrating kindness, patience and a willingness to share their
skills, VITA volunteers exhibit a sincere and abiding desire to help
others.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby
commend and recognize
WVCS’ VITA Program
for the hard work and commitment of volunteers in building a stronger and better
community within the City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
Cupertino to be affixed this Twenty-Eighth day of May, Two Thousand and Fifteen.
