HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Taiwan 105th National Day - 2016 - Word - 10.05.2016PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, each year on October Tenth, National Day of the Republic of China, also known as Taiwan National Day or Double Tenth Day, is a day that commemorates the Wuchang Uprising of October 10, 1911; and WHEREAS, the uprising led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in China and establishment of the Republic of China on January 1, 1912, an important milestone in its political development; and WHEREAS, the Wuchang Uprising led to Xinhai Revolution, in which revolutionary forces overthrew the Qing Dynasty, ending more than 2,000 years of dynastic rule in China and ushering in the Republican Era (1911-1949); and WHEREAS, the Xinhai Revolution led to the establishment of the Republic of China (ROC) on January 1, 1912; and WHEREAS, Taiwan’s National Day is celebrated by its citizens and many overseas visitors and honored dignitaries from around the world that gather in Taiwan to celebrate and show its respect to the nation. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize October Tenth, Two Thousand and Sixteen as Taiwan’s 105th National Day and highlight its importance to the Taiwanese people, both local and overseas, and applaud the sacrifice of citizens involved in establishing the current government. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, October Eighth, Two Thousand and Sixteen. ________________________ Barry Chang, Mayor
