WHEREAS, on Sunday, September Twenty-Fifth, Two Thousand and Sixteen, the City
of Cupertino wishes to recognize the Confucius Memorial Ceremony,
which marks the Two Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty-Sixth birthday of
Confucius; and
WHEREAS, Confucius is respected as the “First Teacher” of Chinese Society, having
influenced many people in their respective ideologies; and
WHEREAS, Confucius planted the seeds of peaceful intellectual and social evolution in
the minds and hearts of the Chinese people, consistently advocating for an
informed and educated society; and
WHEREAS, Confucius counseled introspection, self-cultivation, sincerity, and the
observance of respect within social relationships as a means of achieving
justice and attaining morality in personal and public life, reflecting a moral
fiber of the highest degree; and
WHEREAS, Confucius taught that an ideal government is founded upon loyalty,
respect for elders, and recognition of the importance of family.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby
recognize the
Confucius Memorial
Ceremony
a ceremony that will pay tribute to Confucius and honor all teachers who have
contributed to making the world a better place to live.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
Cupertino to be affixed this Sunday, September Twenty-Fifth, Two Thousand and Sixteen.
