HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Arts Education Month Proclamation - Word - 02.09.2016PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the arts need to be recognized as an integral part of a well-balanced education that prepares students for success in the 21st century and allows them to develop as productive, contributing members of a strong community; and WHEREAS, the Santa Clara County Office of Education’s Artspiration program is a county-wide arts education initiative focused on professional development, advocacy and student engagement in the visual and performing arts; and WHEREAS, we share the vision of ensuring that students have equitable access to high- quality arts education that is culturally-relevant and inclusive in all forms as part of a comprehensive education that sparks curiosity, imagination, creativity and joy; and WHEREAS, March is nationally recognized as Arts Education Month, which is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of teaching the arts to young people as well as recognize the contributions of arts educators in our community. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize March as Arts Education Month in the City of Cupertino and urge all residents to celebrate students’ creativity, inspiration and joy through artistic expression. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, March First, Two Thousand and Sixteen. _______________________ Barry Chang, Mayor
