HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Diwali 2017 Proclamation - word - 10.09.2017PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Thursday, October 19, 2017 Diwali is a recognized Indian National Holiday; and WHEREAS, Diwali is a traditional Indian festival of light; it celebrates the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, hope over despair, and good over evil; and WHEREAS, on the occasion of Diwali, family and friends are gathering to light lamps, exchanging gifts, new clothes, meeting new and old friends, and offering traditional sweet; and WHEREAS, the Diwali Festival creates a safe and healthy environment for children, teenagers, adults and families to enjoy the wonderful festival activities such as food, music, traditional dance, fireworks, sports activities, Health Fair, fun rides, and delicious food; and WHEREAS, “Fireworks” and “Ravan Dahan” are playing an important role in the Diwali Festival; it signifies the victory over evil; and WHEREAS, the Diwali Festival promotes camaraderie among the Indian American community and solidarity with other cultures that enriches the quality of life for all residents in our community; and NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize Diwali and encourage all Cupertino residents to support and participate in this event of cultural, international and community understanding. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, October Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Seventeen. ______________________________________ Savita Vaidhyanathan Mayor
