HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Bicentenary of the Birth of Bahaullah P0ROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Bahá’í community has been a part of the City of Cupertino, embracing members from all races, nationalities, and cultural backgrounds since the 1970s; and WHEREAS, we share the goal of unity, peace and justice in our communities; and WHEREAS, Baha’is support the greater community through volunteering. The Baha’i Community of Cupertino has sponsored the monthly cleanup of a 2-mile stretch of Highway 85; and WHEREAS, Baha’i gatherings, held throughout Cupertino and open to all, provide a social space for reflection and consultation to eliminate all forms of prejudice, and to demonstrate the value and necessity of unity in diversity; and WHEREAS, October 22, 2017 marks the two-hundredth anniversary of the birth of their founder, Bahá’u’lláh; and WHEREAS, the Bahá’ís of Cupertino and their families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues are commemorating this bicentenary, along with Bahá’ís across the United States and around the world. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby proclaim the BICENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF BAHÁ’U’LLÁH and urge all to resolve on this day to promote in themselves and in their relations with others those qualities and attributes that will help bring about the recognition of the oneness of humanity; to embrace diversity; and to work for unity in our local community, in our country, and in the world. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Sunday, October Twenty-Second, Two Thousand and Seventeen. __________________________________ Savita Vaidhyanathan Mayor
