WHEREAS, ever since immigrating from Hong Kong at the age of 14 Ann Woo discovered a love of
Chinese dance when joining a Chinese dance group in San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, her love and pursuit of all Chinese art forms flourished throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Ann Woo is the founder and president of CPAA (Chinese Performing Art Association)
and she worked tirelessly to support the CPAA mission and all of its performances; and
WHEREAS, Ann was an early pioneer for professional women, being the only female student out of
over 200 students in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. She earned her
Bachelor’s of Science degree and later received a job offer from Fairchild Semiconductor in the early
days of Silicon Valley; and
WHEREAS, her many awards include 1999 Citizen of Achievement by the Sunnyvale-Cupertino
Branch of AAUW, 2002 Women's Achievement Award by the Silicon Valley Women's Fund, 2003
CREST Award from the City of Cupertino, Asian Hero 2003 Award from Santa Clara County
Supervisor Liz Kniss, World Journal recognition as Community Hero in 2004, and KQED's
recognition as 2006 Local Asian Hero as well as the Malonga Casquelourd Lifetime Achievement
Award for Excellence in the Field of Ethnic Dance and Music; and
WHEREAS, Ann was a Cupertino Rotarian and her outside community activities included, bilingual
clerk service at elections; helping in Cupertino Quota Club's shopping with children of low-income
families; Chair of Arts and Cultural Committee of Cupertino-Hsinchsu Sister Cities Association; and
organizer of benefit performances for victims of disaster such as 9-11, the earthquake in Taiwan,
floods in China, and countless others.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize
Ann Woo
for her dedication to the arts, volunteerism and creating a better community for children and families
of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino
to be affixed this Sunday, September Tenth, Two Thousand and Seventeen.
