WHEREAS, on Thursday, January Twenty-Sixth, Two Thousand and Seventeen,
the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the Consul General of India in San
Francisco on Republic Day of India; and
WHEREAS, India is the world's largest democracy and shares with the United
States the system in which the supreme power to govern is vested in the people;
and
WHEREAS, the people of India drew upon the values of the rule of law in creating
a representative democracy, which was established on
January 26, 1950; and
WHEREAS, India has thrived as a republic and as a major participant in the global
economy; and
WHEREAS, Indo-Americans are active participants in the vitality of Cupertino
and Silicon Valley and have forged close bonds between our communities and
peoples.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do
hereby commend and recognize
Republic Day of India
in recognition of this significant day in history and in appreciation of the history of
the Republic of India, its people, and for the cultural wealth that has been shared
with the people and City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the
City of Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, January Twenty- Sixth, Two
Thousand and Seventeen.
