Proclamation
WHEREAS, The City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Soma McCandless, upon
her retirement from the Cupertino Union School District (CUSD)
with four years of service; and
WHEREAS,
this year; and
WHEREAS,
the Community Committee in the Interview Process; and
WHEREAS, Soma was passionate and attended the Interest Based Bargaining
Training in 2015 and 2018, as well as the California School Boards
Governance Training workshop; and
WHEREAS,

WHEREAS, Prior to her serving on the CUSD School Board, Soma had also
served five years on both the CUSD Budget Advisory Committee
and the Citizens Parcel Tax Oversight Committee; and

retirement from the Cupertino Union School District (CUSD) with
nine years of service; and

President in 2013 and 2017, and is the first Indian American to serve
in this capacity; and
WHEREAS,
Executive Board
Association; and
WHEREAS,
School Board Members Association; and
WHEREAS,
Leadership in Business Award for California Assembly District 28;
and
WHEREAS,
Organization, and
Masters in Health Administration and has worked in the Healthcare
Industry as an Executive for over 15 years.

upon her retirement from the Cupertino Uni
(CUSD) with two years of service; and
WHEREAS,
Safe Route to School meetings in Cupertino and Sunnyvale; and
WHEREAS,
outdoor residence camp program, ded

WHEREAS, Liang was committed to community involvement and advocated
for transparency, accountability, and community engagement; and
WHEREAS,
(CREST) Award from the City of Cupertino, for her contributions to
the community; and

Computer Science, and has used her Computer skills to teach
underprivileged high school students in East San Jose;
