HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Black April Remembrance Proclamation - word - 04.13.2019 Proclamation WHEREAS, After the Fall of Sai-Gon in 1975, millions of Vietnamese refugees fled the country to escape from the Communist government; tens of thousands perished at sea, but more than a million were rescued and settled in California and other states where they began a new life in freedom; and WHEREAS, population of over 134,525 residents of Vietnamese heritage who have made significant and historic contributions to the Country; and, WHEREAS, history of culture of Vietnam, and many Vietnamese-Americans continue to remember and honor this flag as a symbol of their struggle for freedom and democracy; and WHEREAS, the month of April as Black April Remembrance to remind our community to remain vigilant in opposing tyranny in all forms, to actively support human rights for all people, and to celebrate the principles of democracy, justice, and tolerance by which our nation was founded; and WHEREAS, their international identity and Black April at the County Government Center in San Jose. THEREFORE, hereby acknowledge the month of April 2019 as Black April Remembrance Month IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, April Thirtieth, Two Thousand and Nineteen. ____________________________ Steven M.
