Proclamation
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS,
freeways, which then blows and flows through storm drains into
creeks and out to the San Francisco Bay and the ocean; and
Between July 2014 and June 2015 alone, more than 21,000 cubic
yards of trash were cleaned up from Silicon Valley waterways,
enough to fill twelve football fields ten feet deep with trash; and
WHEREAS,
removing unnecessary debris that causes hazards on the
roadways; ensuring safe streets, sidewalks, and surroundings are
important to prevent vehicle and pedestrian accidents alike; and
WHEREAS,
littered item in the world and are identified within the definition
of litter in the City of Cupertino Municipal Code; and
WHEREAS,
disease-carrying pests; excessive garbage on our streets can lower
property values and turn tourists and residents away; and
WHEREAS,
before it reaches our roadways and focus on removing the litter
that does make its way into the environment.
THEREFORE,
hereby proclaim May 2020 as
Keep it Clean Santa Clara County
Month
and encourage the City of Cupertino and all local businesses, governments, non-profits,
and residents to do their part to eliminate trash and debris throughout the County.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, April Twenty First, Two Thousand and Twenty.
