HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 100th Anniversary of 19th Amendment Proclamation - pdf - 08.18.2020 Proclamation WHEREAS, The City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the 100th the 19th Amendment of the United States Constitution which states, The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex; and WHEREAS, th th November 1, 1919, after thousands of California women advocated for the right to vote throughout the great state; and WHEREAS, government and running for office in unprecedented numbers reminds us that we all continue following in the footsteps of American suffragists; and WHEREAS, campaign to pass the 19th amendment and has since continued their efforts to increase voter registration regardless of race or gender and break down any barriers in the way of a citizen’s right to vote; and WHEREAS, th th City commends the LWV’s efforts to fight for voters’ rights. THEREFORE, hereby recognize the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment in the City of Cupertino and honor the role of the ratification of the 19th Amendment in further promoting the core values of our democracy as promised by the Constitution of the United States. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, August Eighteenth, Two Thousand and Twenty. ____________________________ Steven M.
