Proclamation
WHEREAS, Every 65 seconds, an individual develops Alzheimer’s disease or a
related dementia; these illnesses claim more lives than breast
cancer and prostate cancer combined;
WHEREAS,
affecting more than 50 million people worldwide, including six
million Americans and 31,000 residents in Santa Clara County;
WHEREAS,
and join the global conversation about brain health, Alzheimer’s
disease, and other dementia as a public health crisis;
WHEREAS,
independently in their own homes in cities where more people
understand dementia, include and support those living with
dementia, and where there is less fear and avoidance;
WHEREAS,
Silicon Valley and Santa Clara County Healthy Brain Initiative,
which help meet the needs of people in our community who are
affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias through
support, education, and advocacy.
THEREFORE,
Proclaim September 21, 2021 as
World Alzheimer’s Day
in the City of Cupertino and encourage residents to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease
and related dementias to support our families, friends, and neighbors who are impacted by
these conditions.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
