Proclamation
WHEREAS, Native Americans have played a distinguished role in this Nation's
history and culture;
WHEREAS, The many Native Americans who have called Cupertino home
have shaped our community through every turn of our history;
WHEREAS, Their customs and traditions are respected and celebrated as part
of a rich legacy;
WHEREAS, Native American Awareness Week began recognition in 1976, and
was expanded by Congress and approved by President George H.
W. Bush in August 1990, designating the month of November as
Native American Heritage Month;
WHEREAS, November is the time to recognize the diverse and rich cultures,
histories, and traditions of Native Americans, and appreciate the
outstanding role they have played in shaping our community;
THEREFORE, I, Mayor Darcy Paul, and the Cupertino City Council do hereby
Proclaim November 2022 as
Native American Heritage Month
in the City of Cupertino and encourage all community members to actively seek
knowledge about the history and heritage of Native Americans in our community, past,
present, and future.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
