WHEREAS,
THEREFORE,
The City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the generations of
Hispanic immigrants who have contributed to our country’s
economy and supplemented the unique character of our nation;
National Hispanic Heritage Month has been recognized by the
U.S. since 1968, and Hispanic immigrants continue to grow
businesses, innovate, strengthen our economy, and create jobs;
Hispanic immigrants have provided Cupertino and the United
States with a unique social and cultural influence, fundamentally
enriching the extraordinary character of our nation;
We have seen Hispanic immigrants who have been leaders,
scientists, and teachers, but have also campaigned to create a fairer
and more just society for all Americans;
Despite these countless contributions, the role of Hispanic
immigrants in building and enriching our nation has frequently
been overlooked and undervalued throughout our history and
continuing to the present day;
The Cupertino City Council dedicates the month of September 15
through October 15 to all our Hispanic immigrant families,
friends, and neighbors who have helped make Cupertino great, as
we are enriched by the diversity of our community.
I, Mayor Darcy Paul, and the Cupertino City Council do hereby
Proclaim September 15 through October 15, 2022 as
Hispanic Heritage Month
in the City of Cupertino and encourage the community to celebrate and support the vast
contributions that Hispanic immigrants have made to our state and nation.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, September 20, 2022.
