Proclamation
WHEREAS,
The City of Cupertino values its commitment to diversity in our City; and
WHEREAS,
The Cupertino City Council believes that the principles of human rights and equal protection against discrimination apply to all sections and communities in the City; and
WHEREAS,
The City Council takes immense pride in the fact that almost 70 percent of Cupertino’s population is Asian American; and
WHEREAS,
It is the obligation of City Councilmembers to do everything they can to foster a climate of inclusivity and dignity for all individuals regardless of their background and ethnicity.
THEREFORE,
The City Council of the City of Cupertino hereby PROCLAIMS that the City is opposed to discrimination in all forms and will vigorously oppose any law that could, intentionally or unintentionally,
result in racial or ethnic profiling, violations of civil rights, or stigmatizing any segment of our society; and
THEREFORE,
The City Council of the City of Cupertino further PROCLAIMS that the City is opposed to any law that could, intentionally or unintentionally, contribute to the stigmatization or stereotyping
of any group by using terms with negative connotations such as the term “caste.”
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this (blank date).
