Of the concept. After viewing the transparency, CcMissioner Plan Review

be abandoned one of these days. . . ." The policy had been revised
to add that "specific trails be defined" as described in Exhibit
5E. Ctrmissioner Skeels asked if "5E is specific enough" and
Director replied, 105E is really more general. What a future
anencknent might look like is that, as appropriate, there would
be a very specific map designed for the Stevens Creek trail.
This just ident i f i ps the spaces to be considered. " Conmiss i over
Skeels confirmed that "later they will be defined specifically"
and Director said, "Yes. What this does is lock in . the idea
that these are inwrtant routes. "It was unanimously agreed by
the cortmission to endorse Policy 5-24, including Mr. Lohmiller's
above suggestion.

Preliminary review of the restaurant concept, which .included free advice
fra, Rich Pinta, Marriott's Vice President of Operations, Western Region,
and Mike Lamar he, General Manager, S.nnmerfield Suites, indicates that the
sins of a full scale restaurant may be questionable. 'This may result
in soliciting proposals for a snack bar/short order type of restaurant.
Prior to making that determination, a review of the alternatives will be
conducted with the Parks and Recreation C ud wion and Council beginning
in January.
As for the long term, the Sports Center Master plan C mrLittee continues to
meet and is forming a number of reocmmendations as to how the Sports
Center ca plex might ultimately be developed. The committee has conducted
extensive interviews with dozens of ccmmunity organizations, and visited a
number of public and private sports facilities in the South Bay.

Attention: Don McCarthy
Dear Don:
Enclosed please find a letter from the Northern California Tennis Association section of the USTA
requesting use of up to 10 courts on July 24, 25 and 26, 1992 at the Cupertino Sports Facility.
These courts will be used for the District III Championships. The Cupertino Tennis Club is a
Vigorous participant in District III USTA tennis, usually having 12 -15 teams of 12 or so players
each competing for slots in the championship round. In 1991, the championships were held at
Foothill College and the facilities were terrible.
Please note, the request is "for up to 10 courts from 8:00 to dusk". The exact number will not be
known until May of 1992. The Cupertino Tennis club requests a waiver for use of the courts on
behalf of the USTA as requested. During the day, particularly on Friday and in the afternoon on
Saturday and Sunday, the courts should not be in excessive demand. The use of up to 10 courts
only exceeds the regular rule by 4 and all of these may not be needed because exact subscription to
the USTA will not be settled until the season begins. Please consider the request for this waiver
of the standard rule favorably. I will be happy to testify before the Parks and Recreation
Commission when and if this matter is considered.
Thank you,

Dear Ed,
We would like to hold our 1992 United States Tennis Association League
tennis District III Championships at the Cupertino Tennis Center.
Because of the location, number of courts, and Cupertino Tennis Club' s
participation and support in the league program the tennis center would
be an ideal site.
Our requirement would be the use of ten ( 10) courts on July 24, 25, and
26, 1992 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 8:00 a.m. to dusk. This
would be the maximum use. We will know exactly how many courts wii-I he
needed by May 1st 1992 .
Our staff would be responsible for running the tournament and seeing
that the Center is taken care of. The USTA has insurance for all it ' s
sanctioned events . A certificate of insurance will be provided for the
event.
If the site is approved, please send the charges for court uLage. Let
us know if the charges would be by the hour per court, or one charge for
the whole event .
Sincerely,
Joyce Pournaras
