Rev. 06/26/1992 Jk �A FIFO Ito 10300 Torre Avenue Cupertino CA 95014 Summary Parks and Recreation Commission Agenda Item Number 7 Agenda Date July 2. 1992 SUBJECT AND ISSUE Discussion and recommendation of plans for renovation and improvement of the Faria, Garden Gate, and Stevens Creek school grounds, and relocation of softball field at Monta Vista. BACKGROUND This "set" of schools represents the final group of sites in the agreement with Cupertino Union School District. Having received input from the youth sports organizations and school physical education representatives, and after conducting two neighborhood meetings at each of the school sites, the task force is recommending the attached renovation plans for Faria, Garden Gate and Stevens Creek schools. You will note that this group also includes a change at Monta Vista Park. The Task Force came to this recommendation following a thorough evaluation of the Stevens Creek School site. The original program for Stevens Creek called for relocating Foothill Bobby Sox (Softball) from Monta Vista Park to the school, which necessitated installing backstops, dugouts, bleachers and a concession building. The more the Task Force struggled to fit these amenities on the school grounds, and the more objections raised by Foothill Bobby Sox and adjacent neighbors; it became evident that Stevens Creek should become a soccer location and Bobby Sox Softball should remain at Monta Vista Park. To meet the needs of youth softball, it is necessary to shift one of the existing softball fields to the opposite side of the turf, and move one soccer field to Stevens Creek School. A special meeting was held with the neighbors adjacent to Monta Vista Park and based upon their input, the Task Force is recommending relocating the softball field next to Voss Avenue (as shown in Exhibit G). Although this was the preferred location of the neighbors, they also expressed concern about parking impacts due to the total activity at the park and they may raise that issue Thursday evening.
