BACKGROUND The City of Cupertino is working with a group of residents on the establishment of a memorial native plant garden, at McClellan Ranch Park, in honor of Nancy Herten. Beth Gaydos has been designated the liaison between the City and a number of residents, as well as the Audubon Society, wishing to implement this memorial. The strategy calls for raising funds through private donations to establish a native garden using drip irrigation in front of the former Parks and Recreation office at McClellan Ranch Park. Enclosed for your review, is a site plan for the memorial garden. Landscape architects Steve and Valerie Whitehill have donated their time to create the design, as well as provide installation supervision for the improvements. In addition to providing a plaque honoring Nancy Hertert, there will be three different hydrozones providing an educational opportunity for members of the public. The landscape architect says that this project will cost $3000 and to date approximately $1700 has been raised through private donations and a fund raising event on Sunday, September 27. The site plan has been reviewed by both the Public Works Department and the Parks and Recreation Department and both recommend approval of the design. Staff believes this to be a very fitting and appropriate memorial to a tine lady. STAFF RECOMMENDATION The Parks and Recreation Commission approve the site plan for the Nancy Hertert memorial native plant garden at McClellan Ranch Park.
