Cowan, Director of Community Development as ~ Date: March 17, 1997 Subj: Minor Modification of ll-U-90 to allow a wired access point consisting of 8 panel antennas and radios located on the parapet wall and roof and a small equipment cabinet located inside Building # 1 of the Apple Research and Development Campus at I Infinite Loop. (Applicant is Metricom) Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative approval of minor changes to a project. The Director reports his decision to the City Council and Planning Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or Planning Commissioner to appeal the decision within fourteen calendar days. Application: Minor Modification of ll-U-90 to allow a wired access point (W AP) for Metricom, a provider of wireless modem services. Description: The applicant, Metricom, has established a radio communications network throughout Cupertino for wireless modems which enables laptop computer and personal digital assistant users to remotely access on-line services, the Internet, etc. Data transmissions throughout the network are collected at a wired access point for transfer to the local telephone network. Metricom is proposing a W AP on top of Building # 1 of the Apple R& D campus with Apple Computer's consent. This W AP consists of 8 panel antennas (8.5" x 9.5" x .5") and radios (12" x 8" x 3.25") and a small equipment cabinet (2' x 2'2" x 2' 11 "). Only the small panel antennas would be visible to the outside. They will be flush mounted to the parapet wall and painted to match the building (See photo example). The radios are situated on the inside of the wall facing the building equipment well and are not visible. The equipment cabinet will be located inside the Apple building. Power generation is less than 1 watt. Action: The Director of Community Development deems the modification minor and approves the antennas, radios and equipment cabinet. This approval of the modification is effective March 17,1997.
