Desk Item
Asm. Patrick Ahrens’ Legislative Update
AB 243 (On Governor’s Desk)
AB 243 would reduce barriers to our higher education institutions for youth
who are involved in the juvenile justice or child welfare systems.
Specifically, it will require higher education institutions to accept an
attestation from a local education agency, county probation department, or
welfare department as proof of financial independence for the purposes of
admissions or financial aid applications.
AB 461 (Signed by Governor)
AB 461, the More Help Not Less Act of 2025, repeals the criminal
misdemeanor offense for parents of students who are chronically truant,
which pushed struggling families further into hardship.
AB 1314 (Signed by Governor)
AB 1314 supports foster youth as they’re transitioning out of the foster
care system. AB 1314 reduces bureaucratic barriers to housing homeless
foster youth by standardizing transitional housing contracts.
AB 1326 (On Governor’s Desk)
AB 1326 would establish a legal right to wear a health mask in public places.
Based on a legislative idea submitted by a constituent.
AB 1332 (On Governor’s Desk)
AB 1332 seeks to support seriously ill patients in California, including those
battling advanced cancers, dementia, epilepsy, severe autism and rare
genetic syndromes. For some of these patients, medicinal cannabis is a key
part of their care and comfort.
Unfortunately, as the recreational cannabis market has grown, retailers
have stopped carrying many medicinal products because they are not
profitable. This has limited patient access.
AB 1332 would provide a narrow authorization for a cannabis outdoor
cultivation microbusinesses to ship medicinal cannabis products directly to
that patient’s home.
Two-year bills

AB 635: This bill mandates the Department of Housing and Community
Development refer the most serious, harmful, and economically significant
alleged violations of the Mobilehome Residency Protection Program to the
Attorney General.
AB 1203: This bill requires the department and the Office of Community
Partnerships to include a statewide “water-wise” designation in the Save
Our Water Campaign for businesses in the CII sector that meet or exceed
best management practices for water use.
