DIRECTOR'S MINOR MODIFICATION
Chapter 19.128 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows the Director of
Community Development to grant a conditional use permit authorizing the use
of a site in any zoning district for a temporary use.

Application:
Director's Minor Modification to allow a building-mounted aerial installation for wireless
communications. The aerial installation consists of: a) twelve (12) individual panel
antennae that are 48" x IS" x 5" (l x w x d) in size and flush-mounted to the equipment
penthouse screen in groups of four in the northerly, southerly and westerly direction; and
b) base equipment to be located in an unused storage area in the basement garage 0 f the
building. The project site is the brick-fayade office building atlOlOl De Anza Blv*
Subject:
This is a Director's Minor Modification to allow an aerial installation on the roof top of
an office building at 10101 De Anza Blvd. northerly of Stevens Creen Blvd. The aerial
consists of: a) twelve (12) individual panel antennae that are 48" x IS" x 5" (l x w x d) in
size and flush-mounted to the equipment penthouse screen in groups of four in the
northerly, southerly and westerly direction (see plan set); and b) base equipment to be
located in an unused storage area in the basement garage of the building.
The plan set shows the antennae sited level with the top of the penthouse enclosure wall
The enclosed photosimulation shows "before" and "after" views from two street-side
angles. The antennae will be painted to match the color of the brick tiles. Staff feels this
is one of the better examples of antenna concealment and commends the applicant for his
effort and creativity.

Findings:
1) Staff finds that the subject aerial as proposed will have a minimal visual impact.
2) The aerial augments an existing technology which complies with Federal
Communications Commission safety standards for radio emissions.
Action Taken:
The approval is based upon the attached plan set titled: "Cellular One, Central Cupertino
#737, De Anza Plaza, 10101 De Anza Blvd. Cupertino, CA" and consisting of four pages
labeled CVR, A-I, EXH-B-l (Roof Plan) and EXH-B-I (Basement Parking Level), ~Ind
further subject to the condition that if the aerial is not used for its permitted purpose It)r a
period of 18 months, the aerial and its associated facilities shall be removed. The cost 0"
demolition shall be borne by the property owner or applicant. This Director's decision is
subject to a 14 calendar day appeal. The appeal period ends on December 27, 1999.
