Subj: Report of Director's Decision Regarding a Minor Modification
Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative approval of minor
changes in a project. The Director reports his decision to the City Council and Planning
Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or Planning Commissioner to appeal the
decision within fourteen calendar days.
Application
Modification of Use Permit Application No. 9-U-96, Cupertino Fire Station, Stevens Creek Boulevard
and Vista Drive, for minor des-ign and site plan changes to an approved fire station.
Discussion
The Santa Clara County Fire Department requests the following minor design and site plan changes to
their approved new fire station:
1) Reduce the east setback distance from 95 feet to 90 ft.9 inches, a reduction of 4 feet 3 inches.
The building size needed to be increased to accommodate 6" more per dorm room and 3" more per toilet
room. Additionally, there was some accommodation with the structural elements and the curved wall at
the front for an additional 9". The area of the building increased from 11,900 to 12,775 square feet or
875 square feet.
2) Added a vertical mullion to the front glass, and a door to the exterior for the mechanical room.
The vertical mullion was added to better express the curve. A door was added to the exterior for the
mechanical room.
Staff believes that these minor changes have no adverse effects, and that the additional glass is a benefit.
Please note that the highlighted changes are not part of this action. The applicant included them, because
they are changes to their building plans, which were required to be in conformance with the approved
plans. They now comply.
Action
The Director of Community Development approves the modification, with the following condition:
The new door shall be textured and painted to match the adjacent center plaster.
