DIR-2000-19b
CITY OF CUPERTINO JJ.::J i< -;;?(}(){)- /9
10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, California 95014 (408) 777-3308
To: Mayor and City Councilmembers
Chairman and Planning Commissioners
From: Steve Piasecki, Director of Community Development
Date: April 11, 2000
Subj: Report of Director's Decision regarding a minor modification.
Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative approval of
minor changes in a project. The Director reports his decision to the City Council and
Planning Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or Planning Commissioner
to appeal the decision within fourteen calendar days.
Application
Minor modification of ll-ASA-99, Lloyd Scates for Hewlett Packard, 19111 Pruneridge Avenue
Back~round
The applicant proposes to modify a previously approved security gate design for the Homestead
Road entrance to the Hewlett Packard campus. This system would be used on weekends and
after hours.
The project consists of a vehicle control kiosk, traffic barrier gate and a steel security gate. The
vehicle control kiosk and traffic barrier gates are located approximately 110 feet from the face of
curb on Homestead Road. The steel security gate is located about 60 feet behind the barrier
gates.
Operation will be as follows:
. A car or truck will drive up to the vehicle control kiosk.
. If their access code is approved, the barrier gate will rise and the security gate will open.
. If their access code is not approved, the on-site security will be notified. The intercom and
camera on the kiosk will activate. If access to the site is not allowed, then the barrier gates
will open to allow the car to make a u-turn and exit the site, but the security gate will remain
closed.
The applicant indicated that the barrier gate was necessary so that non-approved vehicles could
not access the site by closely following an approved vehicle.
The previous approval called for the steel security gate to be located at the proposed barrier gate
location. The barrier gates will have considerably less visual impact from the public right-of-
way when compared to the steel security gate. This proposal would locate the steel security gate
further from the public right-of-way. Therefore, staff considers this to be a minor modification
to the previous approval.
2
Action
The Director approves the modifications according to the plan set entitled "Homestead Rd.
Security Gate" dated February 1, 2000.
