This letter confirms the decision of the Design Review Committee, given at the meeting
of July 3, 2002, approving a Director's Minor Modification to re-roof and construct a
new vestibule at an existing church, according to Design Review Resolution No. 83.
Please be aware that if this permit is not used within one year, it shall expire on
February 6, 2003.
Also note that an appeal of this decision can be made within 14 calendar days of the
decision. If this occurs, you will be notified of a public hearing which will be scheduled
before the Planning Commission.

SECTION I1A: FINDINGS FOR APPROVAL OF MONUMENT SIGN
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee of the City of Cupertino received a Director's Referral for
design approval of a change in roofing material for an existing church building as described in this
Resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee finds that the changes are beneficial and compatible with
the surrounding area;
1. The proposal, at the proposed location, will not be detrimental or injurious to property or
improvements in the vicinity, and will not be detrimental to the public health, safety, general
welfare, or convenience;
2. That the color of the proposed roof is generally compatible with the building colors; and
3. Greater consistency in colors and materials of the adjacent church building will be achieved
when that building is re-roofed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
That after careful consideration of maps, facts, exhibits, testimony and other evidence submitted in this
matter, the change in roof material proposed in application no. DIR-2002-13 is hereby approved with
conditions.
That the subconclusions upon which the findings and conditions specified in this Resolution are based
and contained in the public hearing record concerning Application DIR-2002-13 as set forth in the
Minutes of the Design Review Committee Meeting of July 3, 2002, and are incorporated by reference
herein.

SECTION III: CONDITIONS ADMINISTERED BY THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPT.
1. APPROVED EXHIBITS
Approval is based on a plan set entitled: ROOF REPAIR AND UPGRADES OF GOOD
SAMARITAN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 19624 HOMESTEAD ROAD, CUPERTINO,
CALIFORNIA 95014" and consisting of seven sheets that are labeled AO.O, AO.Ol, A1.0, A1.I,
A2.0, A3.0 and A3.1 and dated 4/12/02, excepted as may be amended by conditions contained in
this resolution.
2. REROOFING OF CHURCH BUILDING NO. ONE
When Church Building No. One is ready for re-roofing, it shall be done in a color and material
similar to the proposed Building Two re-roofing material.
3. NOTICE OF FEES, DEDICATIONS, RESERVATIONS OR OTHER EXACTIONS
The Conditions of Project Approval set forth herein may include certain fees, dedication
requirements, reservation requirements, and other exactions. Pursuant to Government Code
Section 66020( d) (1), these Conditions constitute written notice of a statement of the amount of
such fees, and a description of the dedications, reservations, and other exactions. You are hereby
further notified that the 90-day approval period in which you may protest these fees, dedications,
reservations, and other exactions, pursuant to Goverrunent Code Section 66020(a), has begun. If
you fail to file a protest within this 90-day period complying with all ofthe requirements of Section
66020, you will be legaUy barred from later challenging such exactions.

Subj: Director's Minor Modification, File No. DIR-2002-13, to construct a new
vestibule at an existing church at 19624 Homestead Road.
Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative approval of
minor changes to a project. The Director reports his decision to thc City Council and
Planning Commission in time to anow any Councilmembcr or Planning Commissioner to
appeal the decision within fourteen calendar days.
Application:
Director's Minor Modification, File No. DTR-2002-] 3, to construct a new vestibule at an
existing church at 19624 Homestead Road,
Description:
The applicant, Good Samaritan United Mcthodist Church, is proposing to add a 220-
square foot entry foyer to its church at 19624 Homestead Road. The encloscd entry foyer
will be located at the main sanctuary entrance facing the interior parking lot. The foyer
has been designed to match the sanctuary architecture and building materials and colors.
There are no additional, project-related traffic or parking impacts.
The original minor modification request included the replacement of thc orange-colored,
cement roof tiles with a dark green, standing seam, sheet meta] roof. Thc applicant has
been informed that a public hearing before the Design Review Committee is necessary j()['
the re-roofing because the roof is highly visible to the surrounding area and docs not
match the existing building #1 roof~ which is not being re-roofed.
Action:
The Director of Community Development deems the modification Ininor and approves
the entry foyer as reference in the plan set entitlecl: "ROOF REPAIR AND UPGRADES
OF GOOD SAMARITAN UNITED METHOD]S'r CHURCIL 19624 HC)MESTEAD
ROAD. CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA 950]4", consisting of3 pages labeled A 1.0, ^2,O.
A3,O and A3.1 dated 4112/02. The re-roofing referenccdin the plan set is not approved at
this titTle.
This approval of the m.odification is effective May 20,2002. The fourteen calendar day
appeal period will expire on June 3, 2002.
