existing Shell service station at 19990 Stevens Creek Blvd.

Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative
approval of minor changes in projects. The Director reports his decision to the
City Council and Planning Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or
Planning Commissioner to appeal the decision within fourteen calendar days.
Application:
The applicant, Peter Tobin, ARC Inc. Architects, for Shell Oil Products US,
proposes to
. Repaint the canopy and the snack shop,
. Replace signage,
. Add a red and yellow fascia to the snack shop
. Add a yellow fascia to the canopy
. Replace the pump valences
. Add landscaping.
The purpose of these changes is to match the gas station image with Shell's
international image standard. These changes will enhance the site and make the
establishment look aesthetically pleasing. The applicant has worked extensively
with staff to simplify the design of the proposed painting schemes and signs. The
applicant is asking for a sign exception for a larger sign under a separate
application.
Action:
The Director approves the application, file no. DIR-200S-11, with the following
conditions:
1. The Director of Community Development deems the modification minor
and approves the service station improvements based on the attached
plan set titled: "Shell RVI Retrofit, Cost Center # 135216, Silverado
Canopy - Level 2, 19990 Stevens Creek Rd., Cupertino, California"
consisting of 9 sheets labeled A-I through A-9. The sign exception for the
larger sign has been reviewed under a separate application (EXC-2005-I4).
2. This approval of the modification is effective September 2, 2005. The 14-
calendar day appeal period will expire on September 16, 2005.
3. A landscaping plan, subject to the approval of the Planning Department,
identifying additional flowering shrubs planted in the landscaping buffers
shall be provided prior to the issuance of building permits.
