Chapter 19,132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative
approval of minor changes in projects, The Director reports his decision to the
City Council and Planning Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or
Planning Commissioner to appeal the decision within fourteen calendar days.
Application:
File No. DIR-2005-18: Director's Approval of a driveway cut and landscape
modification to an existing surface parking lot at the Hewlett Packard Industrial
Campus 19111 Pruneridge Avenue.
The applicant, Hewlett Packard, proposes to cut a new 25-foot wide, two-way
driveway aisle through a concrete walkway and a portion of the abutting
landscape islands. The purpose of the driveway cut is to link two existing
parking lots and provide a more continuous road around the existing campus
buildings. The driveway cut would cause the removal of two Coastal Redwoods
of 16" and II" in diameter, which are part of the approved landscape plan for the
property. The trees will be replaced with two new 24" box redwoods. Staff does
not recommend a higher tree replacement ratio because of the lack of space and
maturity of the existing landscaping.
As shown in the photographs and drawings, the pathway is not needed for
pedestrian circulation. There is an abutting pathway that is closer to the
buildings.
Action:
The Director of Community Development deems the modification minor and
approves the parking lot improvements based on the attached plan set titled:
"Hewlett Packard Cupertino Campus B43 North Parking Lot Improvement,
Cupertino, California" consisting of 4 sheets dated 6/14/05 and labeled L 1.0
through L 4.0.
This approval of the modification is effective June 29, 2005. The fourteen
calendar day appeal period will expire on July 13, 2005.
