CC 09-17-2024 Item No. 5 Library Commission Annual Report_PresentationCC 09-17-2024 #5 Library Commission Annual Report Presentation Library Commission City of Cupertino September 17, 2024 CC 09-17-2024 Item No. 5 Who Are We Archana Panda, Chair Sheela Sreekanth, Vice Chair Liyan ZhaoJanki ChokshiQin Pan What We Do As per Section 2.86.070 of the City’s Municipal Code, the powers and functions of the Library Commission shall be as follows: A.Consult with the City Council, the City staff and the Santa Clara County Library Joint Powers Authority and staff regarding the functioning of the physical facilities of the Cupertino Library and shall make recommendations from time to time for improvement or modification thereof; B.Consult with the City Council, the City staff and the Santa Clara County Library Joint Powers Authority and staff regarding the Cupertino Library programs and services to the community and shall make recommendations from time to time for improvements or modifications thereof; C.Consult with and act as liaison with private community groups supportive of the library program; D.Consult with the architect and the City Council in the planning of any main or branch library building facilities, including locations, building layout, architecture, landscaping and furnishings; E.Hold hearings, formulate policies and make rules and procedures with respect to the foregoing for approval by the City Council; F.Perform such other tasks as may be expressly requested of it by the City Council. What We’ve Done •Collaborated with Teen Commissioners and members of the Senior Advisory Council to gain insight on programming needs at the library. •Promoted Cupertino Library and Poet Laureate programs and events through community networks, social media posts, and word of mouth. •Provided feedback on new library programs and services, and challenges relating to space and layout. What We Plan On Doing •Complete the updated Poet Laureate Playbook as part of the 2024-2025 Work Program. •Recruitment and selection of the 2026-2027 Poet Laureate. •Support library services through outreach, feedback, and participation in programs. •Continue to identify specific challenges for Teens and Seniors at the library.
