The Arts and Culture Commission is a group of citizens appointed by the City
Council to foster, encourage and assist in the realization, preservation and
advancement of arts and culture for the benefit of the citizens of Cupertino
(see Municipal Code 2.80.080 Powers and Functions).
•Foster the development of public art in the community
•Annual Artist Awards
•Review and approve art in private developments, as well as
public projects
•Enhance the interaction between arts and business
•Provide screening and/or review for arts and culture activities wishing
to obtain city funds or utilize public facilities
•Provide a means for coordination for arts and culture groups or
facilities which may exist within the community
What we do
•Reviewed and approved required art pieces in private
development projects:
•The Forum
•Alan Row
•Westport
•Reviewed and approved public art project utilizing in-lieu
funding:
•Jollyman Park
•Reviewed submissions for the City’s 2023 Artist Awards and
kicked-off 2024 program
•Over 250 submissions in 2023 – a new record!
•Applications are now open (Sep 1 – Oct 1) for 2024 Artist
Awards. Theme is “Building Sustainable Community”

•Engagement of the Commission in the development
process in evaluating uses to revitalize new and
existing local public facing commercial uses
•Revisit Municipal Code standards for the art in public
and private development and developing an Art-in-
lieu fee policy
•Continue to engage with the community through the
Distinguished, Emerging, and Young Artist Award
Programs
•Explore opportunities for new or expanded art
programs in Cupertino
