A RESOIIJTION OF '!HE CI'I'Y CXXJNCIL OF '!HE CI'I'Y OF aJPERI'INO
EXmESSING SUPR>R1' FOR '!HE IW:.LPARK JOmr rooÆRS AtJ'lHORITY
U'.tUKJ.' AND NC7I' AI1IHORIZING A TAX MEASURE IN NOVEMBER FOR '!HE

WHERE'AS, the City Council of CUpertino supports the location of a
major league ba€'E'ball park in Santa Clara County; and
WHERE'AS, the positive regional iItpact of such a facility is recognized
and supported; and
WHERE'AS, the finanein;¡' of such a facility is COlIplex and may require
substantial public financial support: and
WHEREAS the Ballpark Joint Powers Authority is con1:enq;>latin;¡' a 1%
utility User Tax on the November ballot to provide the public financin;¡'
~; and
WHEREAS, the City of CUpertino is planning a similar tax measure on
the same ballot in order to protect arx:J¡or develop approximately 85 acres
of open space and parkland; and
WHEREAS, we believe that two ~tin;¡' tax measures on the same ballot
would lessen the chance of either bein;¡' successful.
BE IT 'IHEREFORE RESOLVED that the City of CUpertino supports the
Ballpark Joint Powers Authority effort, in principle and would support a
Countywide ballot measure in an election con:lucted in March, 1991, or at
some date after that;
HOOEVER, the City of CUpertino does hereby resolve not to join the
Ballpark Joint Powers Authority and further not to authorize a tax measure
in November for the ballpark to appear before CUpertino voters.
