Dear City Clerk, Please take a firm stand to protect and provide a permanent place for our Farmers Market. Farmers market is very important to our health and we have been proud to have such a vibrant farmers market in Cupertino. Please note that whoever saves farmers market will get my votes in November. My family and I will vote for those who help keep the farmer’s market in Cupertino. Thanks for your attention on this important matter, Sylvia Lee From:Rhoda Fry To:City Council; Cupertino City Manager"s Office; City Clerk Subject:For 6/18 Public Comment - Save the Sunday Farmers" Market Date:Monday, June 17, 2024 8:52:17 AM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Dear City Council and City Manager, As you may know, as of Friday night, the Cupertino Sunday Farmers’ Market needs to find a new home. The last market at De Anza is on June 30 and it would be great to have a new home identified by this Friday so that the market can let the residents know of the new location at the next two markets. Jerry Lami, of the West Coast Farmers Market https://www.wcfma.org/ has likely reached out to many of you. Many residents rely on this market to purchase their groceries and it would be terrible for our residents for the market to go away. But there’s more. The market provides a significant amount of food for West Valley Community Services – and that also means that food is not being thrown away (earth- friendly). So by providing a home to the Sunday Market, the City is also providing food to people who are food-insecure and saving planet earth. And buying at the market is earth-friendly because the food doesn’t travel as far as food purchased at local stores plus it is more nutritious. It would be great if we could have the market on Torre Avenue on Sundays. The West Coast Farmers Market does a street closure in Salinas and so they are already experts. Please move fast on this to support our residents. Greetings, In the name of civic engagement and community connection, I ask you to please find a way to keep the Sunday Farmers’ Market going. The huge makeover on Stelling Rd. will bring hundreds of new residents into the community and the location ‘hub’ of the Memorial Park area is important for grocery shopping, human interaction, and a sense of the City wanting to help their residents. There must be a way to do this to keep this vital, fun and necessary weekly gathering together. Asking for some creativity here from your end. Re: Cupertino Farmers Market - a boon for Cupertino residents Wanted to write to say that this is a very important aspect of Cupertino that we enjoy - I have been a customer ever since this market started and would like to ensure that there are no plans to cancel this market in future. If location is an issue, I would strongly urge the Council and team members to find an alternate location to continue this Thank you for your consideration Regards, Pallavi and Umesh Toprani 10705 Orline Court, Cupertino From:Barrie Levinson To:City Council; Cupertino City Manager"s Office; City Clerk Subject:oral communications 6/18 Need a home for Sunday Farmers" Market Date:Sunday, June 16, 2024 4:06:06 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Dear City Council, I just learned that De Anza is terminating the Sunday Farmer's Market on June 30. Please help find a place for it in Cupertino!. I only just discovered this farmer's market location recently - it is easy to park and has a fantastic selection with relatively lower prices than other nearby farmer's markets. I am a frequent farmers' market goer in Mountain View (terrible parking, high prices) and the seasonal Thursday night market in Los Altos (high prices, small selection.) The current market at DeAnza is better than both of these! PLEASE CUPERTINO CITY COUNCIL continue to host the market in Cupertino!!! I am not sure why getting it back at De Anza will not be possible, but I ask you please find another suitable location if that is the case. My husband and I make it a tradition to bike to the market and try to carry back as much as possible on our bikes. We have carried over 20 lbs of oranges, fruits and produce while biking! It’s a fun tradition that incorporates exercise with buying healthy, fresh, local produce. The location at Deanza College is perfect, but if that is not available, please find it a new location that is close to the current one, so it is still bikable for us! Dear Mayor Mohan, City Councilmembers, City Manager Wu, and Economic Dev Mgr. Degu, There are few regular events that bring people together in a positive, healthy way like a good, weekly farmers market. The one that is at De Anza College will end on June 30th. REQUEST: Please find an alternate location for this wonderful farmers market quickly so that the vendors are not forced to find an alternate venue! Please note that the one at Creekside Park is horrible. We went there twice, once to see how it was and the second time to give it a second chance. It was pathetic. The one at De Anza College is vibrant, helps West Valley Community Services and offers an opportunity for small businesses to “test their wares” and grow. This, in itself, is an economic development that brings people in our community together AND people from neighboring areas into our community in a positive way REGULARLY. PLEASE act quickly to find a location. Do not blow this off. It is hard to get it back. PLEASE do not make your first response be NO. Make it YES we will do it! PLEASE consider it part of benefiting the underserved because the leftover food goes to West Valley Community Services. PLEASE consider it great PR for our city and it is a venue the city can use to reach out periodically to the public. It’s a win-win. Make the effort! Sincerely, Peggy Griffin Just some ideas of alternative site ideas (have not explored these): - Memorial Park at Quinlan parking lots - Torre Ave between Pacifica and Rodriguez (arrangements for people to park in nearby lots of businesses that are closed). - A section of Bandley and/or Lazaneo - Portal Ave between Stevens Creek and Wheaton - an area of Valley Church off Stelling From:Rhoda Fry To:City Council; City Clerk; Cupertino City Manager"s Office Subject:Oral Communications 6/18 Date:Thursday, June 13, 2024 12:43:28 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Please ask City Manager to put a link in the agenda to Council Memos so that the public knows where to find these documents. 2. Please also rename one of the reports. Presently two reports for the treasurer’s report have the same name but these are different reports. Please give them names that accurately reflect what is inside. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Dear City Council and Planning Commission: I have been reviewing the changes in rezoning and building standards that are being forced Upon the city of Cupertino by HCD and the Sixth Cycle Housing Element. As an adult, I cannot believe the liberties HCD is taking with my citizen. There is such a new Level of rezoning baggage and nonsense in this Planning Commission meeting document Tonight that I am appalled at what HCD (or some part of HCD) is doing to my city. It is Highway robbery. I don't blame the staff and consultants. A job is a job. They did the best they could with this ridiculous song And dance HCD has been doing with certifying the Housing Elements. It is like a soap Opera. Is HCD mad at Cupertino? Will they sic Yimby Law on the city? Will people call the People living in Cupertino bad names and accuse them of not caring about people? How can HCD rezone parts of the city to the highest density possible and get away with it, especially using Bad Data to start with? How can HCD unstem STEM and use it for nefarious purposes? So HCD won't certify Cupertino and then when HCD is running out of time to certify Northern California, Cupertino gets a letter from HCD (or whoever is running HCD) that they will certify Cupertino, but they have to rezone everything in the city within X amount of days. And I mean, super high densities. And the kicker is, once that land is rezoned for high density Housing zoning, the land can never be rezoned back to non-housing if the city needs parks or Retail. The property owner gets their property upzoned for high density housing and makes More off the property immediately, the minute the city rezones it. There is also no incentive To ever build because each time the property is up-zoned it becomes worth more and more Money. May as well sit on the property for speculation etc. I understand completely why the State Audit Committee voted last month in unison to have An audit of HCD and the Sixth Cycle Housing Element. What ever happened to HCD in the Sixth Cycle, the intent is to rip off and deceive the public and call the public stupid. The Sixth Cycle Housing Element has been a drag on the state as a whole, including Cupertino, Wasting our time and money and trying our patience and resolve. The only thing I have gotten out of the Sixth Cycle is that I consider myself bi-cultural since My mother taught me to speak Spanish at home as a toddler. That is no small matter. Believe me, if the CVRA attorney sues my city on certain principles I will tell him he is Wrong to his face in Spanish. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Dear City Council: It has come to my attention attention that the city of Los Altos has been sued by An attorney from Southern California in conjunction with a CVRA lawsuit specifying that the City of Los Altos has to break up into Voting Districts, similar to the way Foothill-DeAnza College District and FUHSD were hit with CVRA lawsuits. There is the threat that CUSD Might be hit with such a lawsuit also. I am concerned that the city of Cupertino might be hit with such a lawsuit also. No one is Taking the time to determine whether these lawsuits are justified or not. The city Council of Los Altos immediately voted to break into voting districts within days after The CVRA lawsuit was delivered to the city. The public is only now realizing what their City Council gave away, the public's right for self-determination. I am hoping that if Cupertino is faced with such a demand letter as Los Altos was delivered, The City Council will actively defend the city against such a level of intimidation and Allow the people of the city to decide what is best for them in terms of their representation, Rather than cow-towing to a demand letter from such an organization. Cupertino has an extremely ethnically diverse City Council and I honestly see no reason For a group to file a CVRA letter against the city. But, you never know. The CVRA Lawsuit group has become a scandal plagued cottage industry and one never knows The logic of filing such a lawsuit. Thank you for safe-guarding our voting rights in Cupertino. Sincerely, Jennifer Griffin
