Assumptions & Limiting Conditions
Arborists are tree specialists who use their education, knowledge, and experience to examine trees,
recommend measures to enhance their health and beauty, and attempt to reduce the risk of living near
trees. Clients may choose to accept or disregard the arborist's recommendations or to seek additional
advice.
Arborists cannot detect every condition that could possibly compromise the structure of a tree.Trees
are living organisms that may fail in unpredictable or poorly understood ways. Conditions are often
hidden internally or underground.Arborists cannot guarantee that a tree will be healthy or safe under
all circumstances, or for a specific period of time.
Treatment, pruning, and removal of trees may involve considerations beyond the scope of arborist
services, such as property boundaries, property ownership, sight lines, neighbor or landlord-tenant
disputes, etc.The person contracting the arborist accepts full responsibility for authorizing
recommended treatments.
Unless stated otherwise: 1) Information provided in this report applies only to trees that were inspected
and reflects the condition of those trees at the time. 2) Inspection is limited to visual assessment from
ground level and accessible areas; no excavation, sampling, or testing was performed. 3)There is no
guarantee that tree problems or deficiencies will not arise in the future. Conditions change over time;to
live near a tree is to accept some degree of risk.
I hereby declare that the below statements and information are true to the best of my professional
knowledge and belief.

Signature Catherine Tarone • Bark is sloughing off of the central leader and branches.
Case Manager • Tree has been declining slowly since 2017, possibly due to Armillaria,
Gandoderma, or Phellinus wood decay fungi.
• Requires (2) 24" box replacement trees.
2. Black Acacia,Acacia melanoxylon—was 15" DBH
• Removed as an emergency in 3/2023; needs retroactive permit
• Tree had toppled into the parking lot.
• Requires (2) 24" box replacement trees.
3. Black Acacia,Acacia melanoxylon—was approximately 14" DBH
• Removed as an emergency in 3/2023; needs retroactive permit
• Tree was actively uprooting.
• Requires (2) 24" box replacement trees.
4. Black Acacia,Acacia melanoxylon—was approximately 10" DBH
• Removed as an emergency in 3/2023; needs retroactive permit
• Tree was actively uprooting.
• Requires (1) 24" box replacement trees.
5. Callery Pear,Pyrus calleryana—was 15" DBH
• Removed as an emergency in 3/2023; needs retroactive permit
• Tree was identified as high-risk: leaned toward the lot, had a large cavity
at the base, canopy appeared 50%dead.
• Requires (2) 24" box replacement trees.
Discussion Tree# 1 has been declining slowly since 2017. Most of the canopy has died back
and been whittled away by crown-cleaning. Other trees in the lot have very old
and dried Ganoderma or Phellinus conks on the trunks, so it is possible that this
tree was also infected and has failed to tolerate or compartmentalize the rot.
Trees# 2-5 were casualties of the spring 2023 storms.A Plus Tree crews were
dispatched on March 14, 2023 to clear a fallen tree and address hazards posed
by others. Most of the standing trees only had broken limbs, but those listed
here were identified as imminent hazards that needed to be removed for safety.
See pictures below. These trees require a retro-active permit and replacement.
Recommendation A Plus Tree recommends removal of Tree#1, and replacement of Trees#2-5 as
outlined below.

MEMO
Future Removal V Past Removal AA Replacement Tree
Brisbane Box(Lophostemon confertus) is recommended for replanting within the lot. It is the same
size and foliage type as the acacias being removed, grows quickly, has low water requirements,
relatively low root damage potential, and is resistant to the wood decay fungi affecting the existing
trees. It is not a California native, but is a more appropriate species to plant in this setting than
available evergreen natives of this size; oaks would outgrow the space and cause root damage.
'Aristocrat' Callery Pear(Pyrus calleryana 'Aristocrat') is recommended for replacement along the
norther edge of the lot. This is not a CA native, but would match the rest of the row planted there.
A total of(9) 24" box replacement trees are required.
