COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA ITEM.
Dear City Manager Wu,
The upcoming City Council meeting on February 6, 2024 has an agenda item “CITY MANAGER
REPORT”. I encourage you to please provide a live, verbal report on the status of the city with
respect to the storm we are currently enduring. PLEASE do not do another video. An actual report
where the Council can ask questions would be very informative and help improve our city’s ability to
prepare for the next storm or earthquake.
Much of the City of Cupertino lost power. Many trees were downed.
How did our seniors fair at places such as Sunny View Health Center, Cupertino Chateau,
Cupertino Healthcare and Wellness, the Forum, etc.?
How did the tree crew/public works manage?
Were our storm drains cleared in advance?
What unexpected problems occurred? How were they handled?
What could be done better in preparation for the next storm?
Communication is key to building trust. People want to know how and what was done during this
storm. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Peggy Griffin

Subject:Property Tax Discrepancy

Dear City Council,
Please include this email in the next City Council meeting written communication.
I understand Cupertino is suffering a budget deficit because we lost about $30M online sales
tax revenue per year. As a result, the City Council is considering cutting services in many
areas.
From page 3 of Cupertino Budget at a Glance, FY 23-24, 7% of the property tax collected in
Cupertino goes to the City of Cupertino. But from Property Tax Distribution Charts -
Controller-Treasurer Department - County of Santa Clara (sccgov.org), 14% of the property
tax goes to cities in Santa Clara County. A 100% difference. 40% of the General Fund in
Cupertino comes from property tax.
Why does Cupertino receive so little of the property tax compared to the county's number?
Could we double our property tax revenue and solve the budget deficit by simply getting our
fair share?
Thanks,
Long Jiao
