RESOLUTION NO. 8746
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO PROVIDING
MATCHING FUNDS FOR PROJECTS PROGRAMMED IN THE
SURFACE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM (STP)
DE ANZA BOULEV ARD/ROUTE 280 BRIDGE WIDENING
SARATOGA-SUNNYVALE ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNAL INTERCONNECT
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has applied and has
been recommended for $1,900,000,00 in STP funding for the DeAnza BoulevardIRoute 280
bridge widening, adding additional lane in each direction, bike lanes, sidewalks, seismic
retrofitting, and traffic signal modification in the 1993 Transportation Improvement Program
adopted by the Metropolitan Transporation Commission (MTC) and approved by the Federal
Highway Administration; and
WHEREAS, pre-requisite for inclusion in the 1993 Transportation Improvement Program
(TIP) is the adoption of a local resolution stating that:
· The project will be built as described in the application,
· $475,000.00 or 20% of total project cost in local matching funds will be provided by
Caltrans,
· Caltrans understands that the STP funding is fixed at $1,900,000.00 and any
cost increase cannot be expected to be funded with STP funds,
WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino, being a co-sponsor in the aforementioned project is
committing to fund Caltran's local share requirement of$475,000.00 or 20"10 of total project.
WHEREAS, by way of this resolution Cupertino commits to both Caltrans and MTC of
its contribution for said local match and for costs over the $1,900,000,00 fixed STP funding.
WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino has applied and has been recommended for $74,300.00
in the STP funding for continuation of the traffic signal interconnect on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road
from its present terminus of Bollinger Road to Prospect Road, incorporating multi-jurisdictions of
the City of San Jose, Caltrans, and Cupertino, in the 1993 Transportation Improvement Program
adopted by MTC and approved by the Federal Highway Administration; and
WHEREAS, the total cost of the aforementioned project is $84,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the equivalent to a local share of20% or $9,700,00 is being funded ITom the
Transportation System Management (TSM) matching funds; and

WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino will commit to the same $9,700.00 if the current match
from the Transportation Control Measures (TCM) fund is not available.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Cupertino
by way of this resolution of intent does hereby state that:
· The De Anza/Route 280 bridge widening will be built as described in the project
description,
· $475,000.00 or 20% of total project cost in local matching funds will be provided by the
City of Cupertino in co-sponsorship with Caltrans.
· Caltrans is guaranteed its local match in the De Anza Boulevard/Route 280 bridge
widening by the City of Cupertino.
· Caltrans and the City of Cupertino understand that the SIP funding is fixed at
$1,900,000.00 and therefore any cost increase cannot be expected to be funded with STP
funds.
· City of Cupertino will fund any cost over and above the $1,900,000.00 maximum STP
funding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Cupertino by way of
this resolution of intent further states that:
· The Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road traffic signal interconnect will be built as described in the
application submitted to MTC.
· The twenty percent (20"10) matching is currently being funded through TCM funds.
· City of Cupertino is committed to providing the local match of$9,700.00 if the TCM
funding is not available,
· City of Cupertino understands that the SIP funding is fixed at $74,300,00 and
therefore any cost increase cannot be expected to be funded by SIP funds.
