Protruding objects shall comply with the following requirements of the 2019 CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODE,
VOLUMES 1 & 2:
Headroom for protruding objects are permitted to extend below the minimum ceiling height provided a minimum
headroom of 80 inches shall be provided for any walking surface, including walks, corridors, aisles and passageways.
Not more than 50 percent of the ceiling area of a means of egress shall be reduced in height by protruding objects
with Exception that Door closers and stops shall not reduce headroom to less than 78 inches.
A barrier shall be provided where the vertical clearance is less than 80 inches (2032 mm) high. The leading edge of
such a barrier shall be located 27 inches (686 mm) maximum above the floor.
Structural elements, fixtures or furnishings shall not project horizontally from either side more than 4 inches over any
walking surface between the heights of 27 and 80 inches above the walking surface. Handrails are permitted to
protrude 4.5 inches from the wall.
Protruding objects shall not reduce the minimum clear width of accessible routes.
Electrical, Mechanical, Roof Access, Fire Alarm Panel, Sprinkler Riser and all other pertinent rooms must be labeled
with appropriate signage.
At sales/display area Millwork Supplier shall ensure that each POS Cashier Stand and Club Desk are designed in
compliance with TAS 904.4, with at least one 36" min long section of the main transaction counter mounted at 36"
AFF max to top of surface. Accessible counter must extend the same depth as the counter top, from customer to staff
side. See Enlarged Construction Plans, A-501.
Full floor plan is to be roughed-out in chalk prior to beginning construction. Any discrepancies found are to be
communicated to the architect for revision / verification prior to construction
