Teen 04-13-2022 APPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO TEEN COMMISSION Wednesday, April 13, 2022 REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING CALL TO ORDER At 6:01 p.m. Vice Chair Naqvi called the Teen Commission meeting to order. This was a teleconference meeting with no physical location. ROLL CALL Present: Ding, Halambi, Leung, Naqvi, Qin, Luu, Kasamsetty. Absent: Tarra, Zhang. Staff: Daniel Mestizo. All commissioners teleconferenced for the meeting. CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Subject: Meeting Minutes for the March 9, 2022, Teen Commission Meeting Recommended Action: Review and approve minutes for the March 9, 2022, Teen Commission meeting. Vice Chair Naqvi motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Luu seconds motion. Commissioners Tarra and Zhang absent for vote. The motion carries unanimously. WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS OLD BUSINESS 2. Subject: Single-Use Plastics Ordinance Update Recommended Action: Receive an update on the Single-Use Plastics Ordinance. Environmental Programs Manager Ursula Syrova presented an update on the Single-Use Plastics Ordinance to the Teen Commission. Teen Commissioners asked questions and provided feedback. NEW BUSINESS 3. Subject: Option for one teen Commission member to shorten their term by one year with an expiration on August 31, 2022. Recommended Action: Receive report on option for one Teen Commission member to shorten their term by one year with an expiration on August 31, 2022. Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes April 13, 2022 City Clerk Kirsten Squarcia presented the Teen Commission with an option for one Teen Commission member to reduce their term by one year to allow recruitment to return back to the term cycle specified by Cupertino Municipal Code, Chapter 2.95. 4. Subject: YAC Attack 2022 Debrief Recommended Action: Provide feedback on the YAC Attack 2022 Conference event. The Teen Commissioners who attended the YAC Attack 2022 Conference event provided feedback for future events. 5. Subject: Teen Center Re-visioning Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on the current offerings at the Teen Center and provide feedback for the reopening later this year. Staff present the Teen Commission with an overview of the Teen Center and existing programming prior to the COVID-19 closure. Teen Commissioners provided feedback on potential improvements. STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS 6. Subject: Update Reports Recommended Action: Receive update reports from City staff and Teen Commissioners. Staff Updates • Staff shared the following general updates: o The Big Bunny 5k event has returned and will take place on Saturday, April 16. o The All-Inclusive Playground at Jollyman Park Survey is live. o The Lawrence-Mitty Park and Trail Master Plan survey is live. Commissioner Updates • Vice Chair Naqvi provided the commission with a debrief on the April 13 Mayor’s Meeting.
