Teen 02-09-2022 APPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO TEEN COMMISSION Wednesday, February 9, 2022 REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING CALL TO ORDER At 6:01 p.m. Chair Zhang called the Teen Commission meeting to order. This was a teleconference meeting with no physical location. ROLL CALL Present: Ding, Halambi, Leung, Luu, Naqvi, Qin, Tarra, Zhang. Tardy: Ding. Absent: Kasamsetty. Staff: Daniel Mestizo. All commissioners teleconferenced for the meeting. CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS 1. Subject: Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Update Recommended Action: Receive an update on Capital Improvement Projects from the CIP Division and provide feedback. Capital Improvement Programs Manager Susan Michael provided the Teen Commission with an update on existing Capital Improvement Projects in Cupertino. The Teen Commission asked clarifying questions, provided feedback, and expressed interest in collaborating on a career workshop event. 2. Subject: Strategic Plan Update Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on the Strategic Plan and provide feedback. Cupertino Parks and Recreation Director Joanne Magrini provided the Teen Commission with an update on the Parks and Recreation Department’s Strategic Plan. Commissioners asked clarifying questions and provided feedback on the items presented. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3. Subject: Meeting Minutes for the February 9, 2022 Teen Commission Meeting Recommended Action: Review and approve minutes for the February 9, 2022 Teen Commission meeting. Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes February 9, 2022 Commissioner Tarra motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Luu seconds motion. The motion carries unanimously. WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS OLD BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS 4. Subject: Update Reports Recommended Action: Receive update reports from City staff and Teen Commissioners. Staff Updates • Staff informed the commission there will be free COVID testing on February 21, 2022, at the Cupertino Senior Center. • Staff shared the following general updates: o The Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Tree installation will remain at the Cupertino Library until February 28. o The spring 2022 Recreation Guide is live with registration beginning on February 8. • Staff reminded that the YAC Social is taking place on Saturday, November 20 Commissioner Updates • Commissioner Halambi provided the commission with a debrief on the February Mayor’s meeting. FUTURE AGENDA SETTING The following items were requested to be added to future agendas: Library Career Panel Discussion.
