• Resulted in Jollyman DOLA Trial
• Initially scheduled through Spring and Summer 2020
• Extended into FY2020-21 City Work Program

• Temporarily suspended March 17 to June 4, 2020
• Reopened on June 5, 2020
• Youth sports prohibited
• July 2, 2020 - extended through June 30, 2021 or until
sufficient data could be collected
• Hours adjusted to one hour before and one
hour after sunset

Field Use
• Fall 2020 - field use not permitted
• April 20 - Cupertino Little League permit began with
two practices a week. Practice concludes by
6:30 p.m. Sunset on April 20 is 7:48 p.m.
• May 19 - Cupertino Little League added
Wednesday night practice. Practice concludes by
6:30 p.m.

Considerations
• May 4 - New Athletic Field Use Policy adopted by
City Council.
• Effective July 1 , 2021
• May impact field use requested at Jollyman Park
• Impacts not apparent until Spring 2022
• Staff has not been able to observe the DOLA due to
the SCC Mandatory Directive requiring telework
• DOLA should be extended to June 30, 2022 to allow
for sufficient collection of data

• 939 respondents
• 16.8% of residents participate in the sport of golf or
use a driving range (national average 7%)
• 67% of residents who participated in the survey, walk
for pleasure or fitness, and take part in nature walks
or hikes
85% of survey respondents noted that improving access to
natural open space is desired in the City.
