The honorary position is charged with promoting the art form through appearances at local community events and working to instill a passion for poetry among the public. Campbell is a multi-talented individual who has written several books of poetry, performed in multiple poetry contests across the country, and released multiple music albums. He has already leaped into his new role, also taking advantage of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). SCCLD is working with SVCreates to provide support for the mission of the Poet Laureate. A new page on the Library District's website contains general information about the Poet Laureate and lists upcoming events featuring Campbell as well as other local poetry groups being hosted at our libraries. Campbell will be formally introduced at the Board of Supervisors meeting at 9:30 on Tuesday, February 8. As part of the invocation, he will also read a selection of his work as part of the online meeting. Morgan Hill Library's After School Snack program has a station to make Kindness Valentines from Feb. 7 to 11. Teens can learn to watercolor by watching an online course on Tue. Feb. 15. Adults can test their trivia knowledge during a virtual contest on Wed. Feb 16. Following the theme of Kindness, a Caregiving 101 class will be offered over Zoom on Mon. Feb. 21. LIB Meeting 02.02.22-Item 9 Poet Laureate Report Page 1 of 9 Dear Cupertino Library Commissioners and Library Foundation Committee: As my term almost ends,I received a phone call from the library commissioner Liyan Zhao, asking me if my term as Cupertino Poet Laureate to be extended to the end of 2022. I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve the City of Cupertino. Please find below a summary of projects I initiated, as well as projects I was invited to take part in, based in and outside of the City of Cupertino. During my term, I am humbled to have been able to help establish or co-establish a citywide monthly Saturday Poetry Pen Pals, Poetry Cupertino,participating the annual Rotary Youth Poetry Contests, Poetry Window, Holiday Banners and other projects in the past two years. Some of my most impactful projects include the Celebrating the OX New Year, A Hoisan-Wa 'Talk Story' Poetry Performance, Where we are from, Poetry with Hope and Diversity, and Art Wall. I am especially proud of working with Cupertino youth poets, as well as honoring the Cupertino Poetry Circle, the incubator of the Cupertino Poet Laureate program. It is my hope and belief that poets laureate will be able to connect world though words and poetry. We might not able to change the past, but it's the presence and future we are yet to create! It has truly been my great honor representing City of Cupertino as Poet Laureate.
