This holiday is celebrated in parts of India as well as in Hindu communities worldwide. People decorate their homes with lights and Hindu temples with small earthenware oil lamps. They also exchange gifts, including sweets and greeting cards. Special offerings are made to the goddess Lakshmi, who is believed to bring happiness. Visit our website and place a hold on one of the many children's books we have about Diwali. Also check out our free online resource, CultureGrams, where you can find international geographic information about 200+ countries in the world.
