Minutes 5.12.21 APPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO TEEN COMMISSION Wednesday, May 12, 2021 REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING CALL TO ORDER At 6:01 p.m. Chair Jayant called the Teen Commission meeting to order. This was a teleconference meeting with no physical location. ROLL CALL Present: All. Tardy: None. Absent: None. Staff: Daniel Mestizo. All commissioners teleconferenced for the meeting. CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Subject: Approval of Minutes – April 14, 2021 Recommended Action: Review and approve minutes from the April 14 Teen Commission meeting. Commissioner Natarajan motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Zhang seconds motion. The motion carries unanimously. WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS OLD BUSINESS 2. Subject: Collaboration with Safe Routes to School Program Recommended Action: Review proposed Safe Routes to School curriculum topics and ideas for future school presentations and provide feedback. Cupertino Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Coordinator, Cherie Walkowiak, and Safe Routes Coordinators from Sunnyvale and San Jose, Dominic Barroga, Ann Jasper, and Maria Arellano, shared a list of curriculum ideas and activities to bring to local high schools. The Teen Commission provided feedback and shared school logistical items for consideration. 3. Subject: Youth-Led Organization Monthly Feature Recommended Action: 1. Evaluate current nominations. 2. Select three organizations to be featured during the summer 2021 quarter for the months of June, July, and August. Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes Click or tap to enter a date. Staff reviewed the Youth-Led Organization (YLO) selection process and recommended selecting the Youth-Led Organization Features for June, July, and August. The Youth Environmental Power Initiative (YEPI) gave a presentation to the Teen Commission to be considered part of the YLO monthly feature. The following organizations will be featured in June, July, and August, respectively: YEPI, We Love STEM, Learn in Shelter. 4. Subject: FUHSD School Reopening Discussion Recommended Action: Receive an update from commission representatives on the FUHSD COVID-19 Taskforce and Reopening Committee and provide feedback. Chair Jayant provided an update to the Teen Commission on the FUHSD COVID-19 Taskforce and their upcoming meetings. NEW BUSINESS STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS 5. Subject: Update Reports Recommended Action: Receive update reports from City staff and Teen Commissioners. Staff Updates • Staff provided the following updates: Youth Night at Levi’s Stadium for the COVID-19 vaccine, the opening of the Youth Activity Board Recruitment Commissioner Updates • Chair Jayant provided an update on the May Mayor’s Meeting. FUTURE AGENDA SETTING The following items were requested to be added to future agendas: FUHSD Reopening Discussion and follow-up items from the Mayor’s Meeting. ADJOURNMENT At 8:27 p.m. the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING which will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. as a Zoom Webinar.
