REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
At 6:01 p.m. Chair Jayant called the Teen Commission meeting to order. This was a teleconference
meeting with no physical location.
ROLL CALL
Present: Gu, Zhang, Nathan, Yeung, Leung, Jayant, Natarajan, Naqvi. Tardy: none. Absent: Srivastava. Staff:
Daniel Mestizo. All commissioners teleconferenced for the meeting.
CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS
1. Subject: Kennedy Middle School Competition Presentation
Recommended Action: Receive a presentation from the organizers and winners of the Pitch in for a
Cause competition.
Kennedy Middle School students Sanaa Bhorkar and Anya Deshpande shared the results of the
Pitch in for a Cause school contest aimed at helping students socialize. Contest winners presented
their winning projects to the Teen Commission.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
2. Subject: Approval of Minutes for March 10, 2021
Recommended Action: Review and approve minutes from the March 10 Teen Commission
meeting.
Commissioner Nathan motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Naqvi seconds motion. The motion
carries unanimously.
WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
• Deryk Clarke and Emmanuel Munoz invited the Teen Commission to the first annual Youth
Council Virtual Summit which will be taking place on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.

OLD BUSINESS
3. Subject: FUHSD School Reopening Discussion
Recommended Action: 1. Receive an update from commission representatives on the FUHSD
COVID-19 Taskforce and Reopening Committee. 2. Provide feedback and suggestions for
commission representatives.
Chair Jayant and Commissioner Gu provided an overview of the recent discussions held by the
FUHSD community COVID-19 Taskforce and Reopening Committee and requested feedback or
suggestions from the Commission.
Commissioners asked questions and made suggestions which Chair Jayant and Commissioner Gu
will be bringing to the COVID -19 Taskforce and Reopening Committee.
4. Subject: Youth-Led Organization Monthly Feature
Recommended Action: Evaluate current nominations and select one organization to be featured in
the May youth-led organization social media campaign.
Staff reviewed the Youth-Led Organization Monthly Feature selection process with the Teen
Commission. The following organizations gave presentations to the Teen Commission to be
considered for the May Youth-Led Organization Monthly Feature: Learn in Shelter and Wildfire
Awareness Initiative. The two presenting organizations would be considered for the May feature
together with previously evaluated organizations.
The Teen Commission completed the evaluation process and selected the Apart but Not Alone
(evaluated on March 10, 2021) organization as the May 2021 monthly feature.

STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS
5. Subject: Update Reports
Recommended Action: Receive update reports from City staff and Teen Commissioners.
Staff Updates
• Staff provided the following departmental and City updates: InfoTeeno: Mental Health
webinar series, YAC Social II, opening of Teen Commission recruitment for six vacancies
for the 2021 to 2023 term, Esports program start date.
Commissioner Updates
• Chair Jayant provided an updated on the TEDxYouth@TorreAve event, which has now been
renamed to Cupertino Education Discussion (CED) Talks.

• Commissioner Natarajan provided a debrief on the April 2021 Mayor’s meeting.
• Commissioner Naqvi informed the commission of the collaboration with the City’s Budget
Team and the Budget and Bites virtual event on April 23, 2021.
• Commissioner Nathan informed the commission of the collaboration with the Safe Routes to
School Program’s upcoming Student Video Contest Q&A Session on April 28, 2021.
FUTURE AGENDA SETTING
Chair Jayant and Commissioner Gu requested the FUHSD School Reopening Discussion be placed on
the next agenda.
ADJOURNMENT
At 8:01 p.m. the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING which will be held on May 12,
2021, at 6:00 p.m. as a Zoom Webinar.
