FAC 11-22-2021CITY OF 11 DRAFT MINUTES CUPERTINO FINE ARTS COMMISSION Monday, November 22, 2021 6:30 p.m. FINE ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER At 6:31 p.m., Chair Kasamsetty called the meeting to order via virtual teleconference. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Sudha Kasamsetty, Janki Chokshi, Esha Rao, Satish Tare Commissioners Absent: Diana Matley Staff Present: Joanne Magrini, Kelsey Christian CEREMONIAL MATTERS AND PRESENTATIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Subject: Meeting Minutes for the September 27, 2021 Fine Arts Commission Meeting Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes for the September 27, 2021 Fine Arts Commission meeting. Chair Kasamsetty motioned to approve the minutes. Vice Chair Chokshi seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. 2. Subject: Meeting Minutes for the October 12, 2021 Fine Arts Commission Special Meeting Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes for the October 12, 2021 Fine Arts Commission Special Meeting. Chair Kasamsetty motioned to approve the minutes. Commissioner Rao seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. 3. Subject: Meeting Minutes for the November 3, 2021 Fine Arts and Library Commission Joint Special Meeting Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes for the November 3, 2021 Fine Arts and Library Commission joint special meeting Vice Chair Chokshi motioned to approve the minutes. Commissioner Rao seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously, with Chair Kasamsetty abstaining. POSTPONEMENTS None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS None OLD BUSINESS 4. Subject: Update on the Mayor's Discretionary Fund Project Recommended Action: Receive an update from the Mayor's Discretionary Fund Subcommittee Chair Kasamsetty provided an update to the commission that she will be emailing the elementary schools the first week of December. 5. Subject: Art Talks for the Community Recommended Action: Finalize the Art Talk Series logistics for the months of February and May Commissioner Rao will take the lead on the February Art Talk with the topic being Digital Arts. Commissioner Chokshi will provide a name of an artist that may be suitable for the presentation. Commissioner Tare will take the lead on the May Art Talk with the topic being Music. NEW BUSINESS 6. Subject: In Lieu Payment for Required Artwork; (Applicant: Ross Kremers (Public Storage); Location: 20565 Valley Green Drive; APN#326-10-044) Recommended Action: Staff recommends that the Fine Arts Commission consider the evidence presented and determine whether placement of artwork on the project property is feasible. If the Fine Arts Commission determines that artwork may not feasible to be placed on the property, it may adopt a resolution accepting the applicant's request to make the in lieu payment for artwork (Attachment 1) or in the alternative, may adopt a resolution denying the applicant's request (Attachment 2). Commission received presentation from Senior Planner, Erick Serrano. Public comment made my Lisa Warren. Motion made by Vice Chair Chokshi to approve the in -lieu payment. Seconded by Chair Kasamsetty. Motion passed unanimously. 7. Subject: Fiscal Year 2021-22 Distinguished, Emerging, and Young Artist Award Programs Recommended Action: Evaluate participant entries for the Distinguished, Emerging, and Young Artist award programs and chose winners for each category. Young Artist Award submittals were viewed, and scores tallied. Winners: Young Artist, Group A: Ivy Ma (Platinum), Sanvika Mishra (Gold), Audrey Lin (Silver) Young Artist, Group B: Chloe Yoon (Platinum), Nishanth Joshi (Gold), Sawa Ono (Silver) Emerging Artist Award submittals were viewed, and scores tallied. Winners: Eric Yoon (Platinum), Apoorva Talwalkar (Gold), Aarav Khunger (Gold) Distinguished Artist Award submittal was viewed, and scores tallied. Winner: Kalpana Adesara (Platinum) STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS 8. Subject: Monthly Update Reports Recommended Action: Receive an update report from the Fine Arts Commission staff liaison and commissioners. Commissioner Tare reported that he attended the October Mayor's meeting. COMMISSION ATTENDANCE AT UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS Commissioners discussed attendance for the upcoming Mayor's meetings. Attendance will be as follows: December 8- Chair Kasamsetty January 12, 2022- Vice Chair Chokshi February 9, 2022- Commissioner Rao FUTURE AGENDA SETTING The staff liaison reviewed the tentative agenda for the January 24 meeting.
