TEEN 01-13-2021 APPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO TEEN COMMISSION Wednesday, January 13, 2021 REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING CALL TO ORDER At 6:00 p.m. Chair Jayant called the Regular Teen Commission meeting to order. This was a teleconference meeting with no physical location. ROLL CALL Present: All. Tardy: none. Absent: none. Staff: Daniel Mestizo. All commissioners teleconferenced for the meeting. CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Approval of Minutes – November 18, 2021 Commissioner Natarajan motions to approve minutes with corrections. Vice-Chair Yeung seconds motion. The motion passes unanimously. WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Staff read an e-mail from Akanshka Roy who was interested in sharing an Anti-Vaping Presentation. OLD BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS 2. Subject: Quarterly Update on the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Teen Commission Work Program. Recommended Action: Receive a quarterly update on the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Teen Commission Work Program. City staff presented a quarterly update on the progress of items on the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Teen Commission Work Program. Commissioners shared potential next steps on completing remaining items. 3. Subject: Commission Proposals for the Fiscal Year 2021-22 City Work Program. Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes January 13, 2021 Recommended Action: Provide a list of proposed items for the Fiscal Year 2021-22 City Work program, identifying the top three proposals, limited to no more than five. City staff provided a presentation detailing the City Work Program process.Commissioners asked clarifying questions and City staff provided answers. Chair Jayant recommended bringing fiber internet connections to Cupertino. The Commission agreed to the following City Work Program item proposal: 1. Fiber Internet Implementation STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS Staff Updates • City staff provided the following updates: launching of the Drafting Cupertino’s Future Essay Contest and the YTRS Scholarship for juniors and seniors. Commissioner Updates • Chair Jayant debriefed the Teen Commission on the January Mayor’s Meeting. FUTURE AGENDA SETTING Chair Jayant and Commissioner Natarajan requested the Anti-Vaping Presentation be added to a future agenda. ADJOURNMENT At 7:34 p.m. the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING which will be held on March 10, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. as a Zoom Webinar.
