CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. November 13, 2019 – Commissioner Natarajan motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Tung
seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously.

OLD BUSINESS
2. <hack> Cupertino 2020
Staff reiterated the need for coordinating workshops, gathering mentors, and securing
event judges. Staff discussed the potential for having the event delayed or cancelled
unless the Commission can finalize workshops, mentors, and judges.
NEW BUSINESS
3. If I Were Mayor Contest
This work program item was postponed to redirect focus on active work program items.
4. Commission Meeting Sign-Ups
Staff will send out meeting sign-ups for commissions to sign-up to attend City
commission meetings. Commissioners will be responsible for signing up for at least 2
meetings.
5. Commission Proposals for FY 2020-21 City Work Program
Commissioners began deliberations on their suggestions for the FY 2020-21 Work
Program. City staff member Mestizo answered questions from commissioners regarding
the process. Following discussions, a rough draft was created which will continue to be
edited.
Commissioners presented the following proposals for the City Work Program:

<hack> Cupertino 2021
Continue collaboration with Cupertino's Parks and Recreation
Department to organize the 5th annual <hack> Cupertino, a 13-
hour overnight hackathon for teens ages 13-18. The goal is to give
youth a simultaneous enriching and recreational opportunity.
Bobateeno
Continue collaboration with the Mayor's Office to host an event for
students ages 12-18 and provide them with a platform to socialize
and enjoy a day outside with various activities while drinking free
milk tea. The event is designed to give teens a respite from daily
stressors and for them to discover valuable resources while
enjoying mobile recreation activities.
Addressing traffic
safety at schools
Through collaborations with the Bike-Ped Commission and Safe
Routes 2 School program, the Teen Commission would like to find
ways to improve traffic around schools.

Engagement Series

Teen Workshops
Continue working with teens who want to volunteer and lead
workshops and share their knowledge and/or skills with other
teens. Workshops will be held at the Cupertino Teen Center and
other available City facilities.
