TEEN 08-12-2020 APPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO TEEN COMMISSION Wednesday, August 12, 2020 REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING CALL TO ORDER At 6:03 p.m. Chair Tung called the Regular Teen Commission meeting to order. This was a teleconference meeting with no physical location. ROLL CALL Present: Tung, Jayant, Venkatasubramanian, Devisetti, Yeung, Gu, Nathan, Khot. Tardy: Natarajan. Absent: N/A. Staff: Daniel Mestizo. All commissioners teleconferenced for the meeting. CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS 1. Presentation from the Cupertino Poet Laureate, Jing Jing Yang Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Christine Hanel presented the Poet Laureate Program to the Teen Commission. Poet Laureate, Jing Jing Yang, read a poem and informed the Teen Commission of the Poet Penpal Program on August 29th. Student poet Zain Haseeb read and presented her poem. 2. Presentation regarding Rosenberg’s Rules of Order and Meeting Management The Rosenberg’s Rules of Order March 31st City Council presentation by the City Attorney, Heather Minner, was shown to the Teen Commission. City staff provided additional rules and answered questions from the Teen Commission. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3. July 22, 2020 – Commissioner Natarajan motions to approve minutes with corrections. Commissioner Gu seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously. WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS OLD BUSINESS Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes August 12, 2020 4. <hack> Cupertino 2020 City staff presented the survey results from the event debrief and participant survey. Commissioners provided the following feedback: having one registration page, earlier and more communication with judges, limiting Devpost submissions to Bay Area residents, and having an organized file depository with all event files for the purposes of continuity. 5. Pizza and Politics: 2020 The Pizza and Politics subcommittee provided the Commission with an update on the survey topics. A document with topics, descriptions, and sample questions will be attached to the August 26th agenda. Commissioners Devisetti and Venkatasubramanian were tasked with creating the social media videos. Commissioner Venkatasubramanian will be designing a teaser. Guidelines and information were requested from subcommittee and City staff. Chair Tung requested having an event planning timeline. NEW BUSINESS 6. Fall 2020 Youth and Teen Programming Staff Liaision Mestizo presented the Teen Commission with ongoing, planned, and postponed fall 2020 youth and teen programming. Feedback for new ideas was requested. Teen Commissioners shared the following ideas and suggesstions: programs to address teen mental health such as meditation events or classes, virtual Teen Center space, financial preparedness workshops, legislative subcommittee, different skill-based divisions for e-sports leagues.
